The bird turned and came back towards the women. According to the women, they saw a very large bird come up from behind them and fly past the car. Other stories say she is not necessarily harmful, just predatory.įor my depiction, I used the Bird demons from Inuyasha as a base for the Lechuza, having a large monster owl frame with hand talons while the human side resides within the body. Mike Cox writes about three women on their way home from San Antonio one night encountering a La Lechuza. She also has the ability to create storms and vocal mimicry. Like the Banshee, her screeches can serve as omen of someone about to die. She is similar to a Harpy in the birdlike features, and a Banshee or Siren in her method of using sounds (In this case, a baby crying) to lure her prey so that she may snatch them up to take somewhere to be devoured. La Lechuza is one giant owl with the face of a haggard woman. She could also come from the classic "wife of an unfaithful husband" woman in white ghost story origin. The legend of La Lechuza originated in Mexico, but the spooky witch owl possibly attacked Robstown in 1975. Legend goes La Lechuza were former white witches called curandera, who were accused as brujeras and killed by the townspeople, only to come back for revenge. La Lechuza is a witch from Mexican folklore that speaks of a witch capable of taking on the form of an owl.
